This looks like a scene from a concentration camp doesn't it? Well, it's not, in fact this is a typical shed of battery chickens.
Battery hens are birds that are kept solely for laying eggs. They live short miserable lives in a space no bigger than an A4 piece of paper.

There are over 5 Billion egg laying hens worldwide today. 80% are kept in confined cages. Thousands to a shed and sometimes eight tiers high. They are unable to move or even spread their wings. Fighting occurs on a regular basis, resulting in the chickens have part of their sensitive beaks clipped off. The shock of which has caused death.
The Hens are forced to stand all day on wire, causing ulcers on their feet. The sheds are windowless, all their lighting is artificial.
The constant egg laying causes calcium deficiency. The hens bones become weak and snap like twigs.
This is their life, until death liberates them
